Taihaku Ward in Sendai City is the second most populous of the city's five wards, after Aoba Ward. Mount Taihaku towers over Taihaku Ward, rising 321 meters above sea level, and its beautiful triangular shape is the ward's symbol. Many buried cultural assets remain in Taihaku Ward. Late Paleolithic stone tools, trees, and animal droppings have been excavated at the Tomizawa Ruins. The remains of a large building and timber fence dating back to the 7th and 8th centuries have been found at the Koriyama Ruins. The upper reaches of the Natori River, which flows through Taihaku Ward, are rich in natural beauty, and char and yamame trout swim in the waters.
