Founded in 1955, Zao Town in Katta District is located at the foot of the Zao Mountain Range. Sixty percent of the town is mountain forest and wilderness, making it a region rich in nature. The Matsukawa River flows through the center of town, offering a beautiful valley. The plateau leading to the Zao Mountain Range is home to many wild birds. Rice farming is thriving within the town, and fruit cultivation is also widespread, ranking first in the prefecture in terms of fruit production. Dairy farming is carried out in the plateau, and the town is known for its excellent dairy products, including cheese. Togatta Onsen is also a popular tourist spot. The Tohoku Shinkansen and Tohoku Expressway are both located within the town, making it easily accessible.
