About Shichikashuku Town
Shichikashuku Town, Katta District, is located in the southwestern part of Miyagi Prefecture, on the border with Fukushima and Yamagata prefectures. The town was named after the seven post towns that once stood along the mountainous Shichikashuku Highway between the Oshu Highway and the Ushu Highway. Located on the southern side of the Zao mountain range, the town is characterized by its mountainous landscape and villages scattered across valleys. Most of the area is covered in forests and wilderness, making it a region rich in nature. The Shichikashuku Dam is located within the town, and serves as a water source for the residents of Miyagi Prefecture, including Sendai City. Tourist attractions include Nametsu Falls and a grove of skunk cabbage. In winter, Miyagi Zao Shichikashuku Ski Resort, where winter sports are available, attracts many tourists.
