About Ishinomaki City
Ishinomaki City is located off the coast of Kinkasan, Sanriku, one of the world's three largest fishing grounds. A variety of seafood is caught here, including Kinka Gin (also known as silver salmon), Kinka bonito, and Kinka mackerel, all of which are widely known as premium brands. Other seafood caught include sea squirts, scallops, and oysters. Rice cultivation, including Hitomebore and Sasanishiki varieties, is also thriving. Dairy farming is also practiced in Johonyama. Ishinomaki's traditional cuisine is "Okuzugake," a stew of vegetables and tofu. Specialties include grilled goby and Ishinomaki yakisoba, steamed in a seafood broth. The city is also home to tourist attractions rich in nature, including the Prefectural Natural Park, Kinkasan, Tashirojima, and Makiyama Citizens' Forest.
