About Oki Town
Taiki Town, Watarai County, was formed in 2005 by the merger of Omiya Town, Kisei Town, and Ouchiyama Village. The town's name, Taiki, is derived from the characters "O" (large) from Omiya Town and Ouchiyama Village, and "Ki" (period) from Kisei Town. The town's main industries are fishing and agriculture. Dairy farming is particularly thriving, and Ouchiyama Milk, produced in the former Ouchiyama Village, is known throughout the Tokai region as a brand of milk. Cattle farming is also thriving, and the brand of beef known as Shichiho Beef is highly acclaimed nationwide. Shiitake mushrooms are also cultivated, making use of the virgin forest. Ouchiyama Zoo is a famous tourist spot in the town. In addition to birds and small animals, it also houses wild animals such as lions and tigers, making it a truly spectacular sight.
