About Shima City
Shima City was formed by the merger of Hamajima, Daio, Shima, Ago, and Isobe, towns that once belonged to the Shima region. Its main industry is fisheries, with coastal fishing, aquaculture, and deep-sea fishing taking place, resulting in the landing of spiny lobster, abalone, bonito, icefish, and rockweed. Agriculture is also practiced, with muskmelons and sweet potatoes cultivated. Shima City is also home to many scenic tourist attractions. The most notable example is the beautiful ria coastline of Ago Bay, which has been selected as one of Japan's 100 best sunsets. The "Ise-Shima Ama's Sea Flute," selected as one of Japan's 100 best soundscapes, is also famous. The "Daiousaki Lighthouse," beloved by many artists, is also a sight to behold.
