About Kiho Town
Kiho Town, Minamimuro District, is located in the southeastern part of the Kii Peninsula in the southern part of Mie Prefecture, serving as the southern gateway to the prefecture. It borders the Kumano Sea to the east, Mihama Town to the north, Kumano City to the west, and Wakayama Prefecture to the south. As a result, the town has strong historical and cultural ties with Wakayama Prefecture, and there is active cooperation and exchange across prefectural boundaries. The area surrounding the Kumano River basin and Shichiri-Mihama is part of Yoshino-Kumano National Park. Furthermore, three locations within the town—Shichiri-Mihama, the Kumano River, and Mifunejima—are registered as World Heritage sites as sacred sites and pilgrimage routes in the Kii Mountain Range. The town's main industry is manufacturing, including paper mills and sawmills that utilize the port. In the eastern part, rice paddies are cultivated along the river basin, and mandarin oranges are grown in the hills.
