Kuwana City is located in the northern part of Mie Prefecture. Due to its proximity to Nagoya City, residential development has been progressing in recent years as a commuter town for Nagoya City. Blessed with abundant tourist resources, Kuwana City is known as one of the prefecture's leading tourist cities. Major tourist spots include Daifukudenji Temple, one of Japan's three major Shoden temples; the remains of Shichiri-no-Watashi Ferry, a designated historic site by Mie Prefecture; and Rokkaen, often used as a filming location for movies and TV dramas. The local industry is traditional casting, which is well-known nationwide. It was once counted as one of Japan's two major casting production areas. It is also famous for its clam production, and clam dishes can be found all over the city.
