About Kumanoshi
Kumano City is located in the southern part of Mie Prefecture, and its southwestern borders Wakayama and Nara prefectures. Its main industries are fishing, which takes advantage of its natural harbor, forestry, which makes use of its mountain forests, and mandarin orange cultivation, which takes advantage of its warm climate. As a result, its specialty products include dried fish, sanma sushi, and mandarin oranges. The 300-year-old Kumano Fireworks Festival is a popular event, attracting many visitors every year. The Futagishima Festival, designated an intangible folk cultural asset of Mie Prefecture, is also famous.
