Located in the northwest of Mie Prefecture, Iga City once flourished as a post town. It has long played an important role as a transportation hub connecting Kyoto, Nara, and Ise. Its main industry is the traditional Japanese craft of braided cords, boasting the highest production volume in Japan. Fruit cultivation, including pears and peaches, is also thriving. Iga beef, which has gained popularity in recent years, is also a popular product. Iga City was spared much of the damage caused by war, so many famous places and historical sites remain. Popular tourist spots include Ueno Castle, Haiseiden Hall, and Basho's birthplace. Aoyama Plateau, where you can enjoy the magnificent mountain scenery, is also a popular leisure spot.
