Seika Town, Soraku County, is located in the southwestern corner of Kyoto Prefecture. It plays a central role in the Kansai Culture and Academic Research City, and is home to the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International and the Kansai-kan of the National Diet Library. Due to its basin-like climate, the town experiences hot summers and cold winters. However, the climate remains relatively warm throughout the year. Making the most of this climate, strawberry cultivation is thriving. Tourist attractions include Keihanna Plaza, which boasts the world's largest sundial face. Leisure spots include Keihanna Commemorative Park, which opened in 1995 to commemorate the construction of the Kansai Culture and Academic Research City. Festivals include the Igomori Festival, held at Iwazono Shrine in January. The town also has international ties and is a sister city with Norman, Oklahoma, USA.
