About Yamashina-ku, Kyoto
Yamashina Ward, Kyoto City, has undergone numerous mergers in the past, but when the Meishin Expressway was constructed, the Kyoto Higashi Interchange, connecting to National Route 1, was built. Due to its convenient location, the population rapidly increased, and Yamashina Ward, Kyoto City, was born in 1976. Evidence of human habitation dating back to the Heian and Jomon periods can be seen in this area, with numerous ruins, pottery, and Man'yo Romantic sites having been excavated. Major industries include traditional crafts such as the production of Kyoto Buddhist altar implements, folding fans, and Kiyomizu ware. The ward is also known as a historic site associated with Oishi Kuranosuke, who is said to have lived here for a year before his raid.
