About Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto
Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, is located almost in the center of the city. It borders Kita Ward and Kamigyo Ward. This area, steeped in history, is home to numerous tourist attractions and historical sites, including Nijo Castle, a World Heritage Site, and Honnoji Temple, where Oda Nobunaga was defeated by Akechi Mitsuhide. Many traditional events are held throughout the year, including Mibu Kyogen, a 700-year-old folk performing art representative of Kyoto, designated an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan. While its official name is Mibu Dainenbutsu Kyogen, it is more commonly known as Mibu-san's Kanden-den.
