About Fushimi-ku, Kyoto
Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City, is located in the southeastern part of the city, and is home to the Katsura River and Uji River. It has long developed as a water transportation hub. This area was an important castle town, temple town, and port town, and even today, many shrines and historical sites remain. It boasts a variety of tourist attractions, including Daigoji Temple, a World Heritage Site known as the place where Toyotomi Hideyoshi held his cherry blossom viewing party; Fushimi Inari Shrine, which attracts the most first shrine visits of the year in the Kinki region; and the National Treasure Amida Hall. Local specialties include Rakunan cabbage and sake. The Rakunan Spring Cabbage Festival and Sake Festival are held every year, and various other events add to the excitement. In spring, the Cherry Blossom Festival is held, where visitors can enjoy the cherry blossoms at night aboard a ten-koku boat.
