About Tamana City
Tamana City was reborn as the new Tamana City in 2005, following the merger of the former Tamana City and three towns. Surrounded by ocean, mountains, and rivers, the city boasts a rich natural environment, with a thriving agricultural and seafood industry, including rice, strawberries, melons, tomatoes, and mandarin oranges. Tamana City is located midway between the Kumamoto and Fukuoka metropolitan areas, offering convenient transportation via the JR Kagoshima Main Line, Kyushu Expressway, and Ariake Ferry. Tamana Onsen and Koten Onsen are popular tourist spots, attracting many visitors. The city is also known as a historical city, boasting numerous national historic sites, including the Daibo Tomb, Eianji East Tomb, and Eianji West Tomb. It is also home to Umebayashi Tenmangu Shrine, the first branch shrine of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.
