Kita Ward, located in the north of Kumamoto City, is the largest of the city's five administrative wards. The area is blessed with abundant agricultural products, historical heritage sites such as Tabaruzaka and Musashizuka, and natural beauty such as the Hakkei Mizutani Water Source and Mount Tatsuta. The former Ueki Town area is a special merger ward. The ward is home to hot springs such as Ueki Onsen, Miyahara Onsen, Kikunan Onsen, and Kajio Onsen, making it a blessed and easy-to-live-in area. Ueki watermelons and melons are renowned nationwide and are cultivated in abundance. The ward is also conveniently located via the Kyushu Expressway, National Route 3, which runs through Kita, Chuo, and Minami Wards, and the Kagoshima Main Line.
