Sagara Village, Kuma District, is located in the center of Kuma District, Kumamoto Prefecture. The northern part of the village borders Itsuki Village, famous for the Itsuki Lullaby. Its mountains range in elevation from 400m to 1,300m, creating a vast forest. The southern part borders Hitoyoshi City, famous for its Kuma River rafting. The Kawabe River, a tributary of the Kuma River, one of Japan's three most rapid rivers, flows through the center, creating an agricultural region with rice paddies and farmland. Its main industries are agriculture and forestry, and its specialty products are rice, tea, leaf tobacco, and melons. Tea, in particular, has been developed into a housing complex, boasting the highest tea production in the prefecture. Access to the Kyushu Expressway makes it an easy three-hour drive to Fukuoka City and one-hour drive to Kagoshima and Miyazaki.
