Nishiki Town, Kuma District, is located in the dark part of Kumamoto Prefecture. The northern part of the town is flat, but the southern part is mountainous due to the influence of the Kyushu Mountains. It borders Ebino City in Miyazaki Prefecture, and the southern end of the town is adjacent to Ebino City. Agriculture is a thriving industry in the town, taking advantage of the mountainous terrain. Pears and peaches are abundant in this area, and rice is also produced in the plains. Other industries include manufacturing and leisure tourism. Golf course management is the main focus of the leisure tourism industry. Famous places in the town include the Kyogamine Yokoana Kofun Tumulus and Kamishiro Cultural Forest. A Hinamatsuri (Doll Festival) is held every year at Kamishiro Cultural Forest.
