About Minakami Village
Minakami Village, Kuma District, is located in southern Kumamoto Prefecture, in the Kyushu Mountains, and at the easternmost tip of the Hitoyoshi Basin. The entire village is mountainous. The source of the Kuma River, one of Japan's three fastest rivers, flows through the village, and the yamame trout that grace the clear waters are a stunning sight, captivating many visitors. In spring, the shores of Lake Ichifusa are filled with 10,000 cherry trees, and in autumn, the village is beautifully colored by cluster amaryllis and autumn leaves that stand out against the mountain background. The village boasts carefully cultivated pure stream rice, bamboo shoots, tea, chestnuts, and strawberries, and the long-established Yuyama Onsen is known as a beauty spring. Many people visit Yuyama Onsen for its rice harvesting and the Yuyama Onsen Cherry Blossom Festival. Ichifusayama Shrine and Shozen-in Temple are also popular tourist spots.
