About Itsuki Village
Itsuki Village, Kuma District, is located in southern Kumamoto Prefecture and northern Kuma District. It borders Minakami Village and Taragi Town to the east, Toyo Town and Sakamoto Village in Yatsushiro City to the west, Yamae Village and Sagara Village to the south, and the Gokanosho area to the north. The village itself is located in the mountainous Kyushu Mountains, with few flat areas and a distinctive topography of deep gorges crisscrossing the land. Over 90% of the area is covered by forest. Local specialties include Itsuki tea, log-grown shiitake mushrooms, Itsuki garlic, watercress, dried bamboo shoots, yamame trout, sweetfish, and venison, all of which are served at roadside stations like Itsuki Lullaby Village. Tourist attractions include Lullaby Park, the Miyazono Ginkgo Tree, a prefectural natural monument designated as a natural monument, Shirataki Park, and the Hashinoyaki Pottery. The Itsuki Lullaby Festival is held every November, showcasing traditional performing arts.
