Mifune Town, Kamimashiki District, located in central Kumamoto Prefecture, has long developed as the economic and cultural center of the Kamimashiki region. It is also known as one of the leading brewing towns in Kumamoto Prefecture. The town is adjacent to various municipalities, including Kumamoto City and Kashima Town. The famous Yoshimuta Plateau is known as one of the most beautiful plateaus in Kyushu. There are also many other famous sites within the town, such as the Yoshimuta Water Source and the Mifune Dinosaur Museum. The town also hosts a festival called the Mifune Gaappa Festival. "Gaappa" refers to kappa, and the festival is popular as it is based on the kappa legend of the Mifune River.
