About Kashima Town
Kashima Town, Kamimashiki District, is located in southern Kumamoto Prefecture, bordering Jonan Town and Mifune Town to the south and Mashiki Town to the east. The town is part of the Kumamoto Plain, and is covered with flat rice paddies. Parts of the eastern part of the town are also hilly. Surrounded by the Yagata River, Midori River, and Kase River, the town is dotted with springs, forming a large group of springs. Due to this abundance of springs, the town has been selected as one of the 100 Water Villages by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism. The town's specialty products include agricultural products such as melons, strawberries, and soybeans, as well as seafood such as sweetfish. The town is home to the Idera Tomb, the Fuufu-naka Ukishima Shrine, and Kai Shrine, making it a popular tourist spot.
