Oguni Town, Aso District, is located in the westernmost part of Kumamoto Prefecture, in the Kyushu Mountains at the northern tip of Kumamoto Prefecture, in central Kyushu. The Chikugo River flows upstream. Much of the town faces Oita Prefecture, and over 70% of the town is farmland. Because this area is heavily influenced by the Kyushu Mountains, it is relatively cool in the summer but experiences heavy snowfall in the winter. The area also receives a lot of rain, resulting in a large forest. Cedars, Epine birds, and varied tits are symbols of the area. Industry is closely tied to the Kansai region, and the two regions cooperate to develop their economies. Major tourist attractions include Tsuetate Onsen, Yamakawa Onsen, and Hagenoyu Onsen.
