Nishihara Village, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture, borders Minamiaso Village and Ozu Town. It lies slightly north of the center of the prefecture, between the Kumamoto metropolitan area and the Aso Caldera. It's a mountainous and naturally rich area. Formed by a merger in 1960, the village's name takes its name from each of the two villages that existed before the merger. Local specialties include taro and peanuts. Other tourist attractions include the Aso Milk Farm, where visitors can interact with animals such as pigs, goats, and cows; the Kaze no Sato Campground, with its roller slides and outdoor stage; and the Tawarayama Community Center Moe no Sato Cosmos Garden, where approximately one million cosmos flowers bloom in the fall. The Cosmos Garden hosts a Cosmos Festival in the fall.
