Minamioguni Town in Aso County is located in the central part of Kyushu. Its rugged terrain includes the Aso outer rim and the Kuju mountain range, and parts of it are part of Aso-Kuju National Park. Senomoto Plateau, located on the eastern edge of town, offers sweeping views of the Five Peaks of Aso and the Kuju mountain range from its vast grasslands. The Yamanami Highway runs through the center, making it a popular driving course. It has also been selected as one of the 100 Green Landscapes of Kumamoto. Local specialties include shiitake mushrooms, maitake mushrooms, and Jersey milk. The statues of Hojo Tokisada and Hojo Tokimune at Manganji Temple are designated as Important Cultural Properties by the national government, and the garden is said to be the oldest in Kyushu and has deep historical ties. A hot spring town stretches along the Manganji River, famous for its "kawayu" baths, where baths are flush with the river.
