Minamiaso Village, Aso District, is located in the northeastern part of Kumamoto Prefecture, in the southern part of the Aso Caldera. The village's tree is the Nangoubi tree, its flower is the Andromeda japonica, and its other symbols are the Blue-and-white butterfly and the White-throated Sparrow. Minamiaso Village is home to Mount Aso, a symbol of Kumamoto Prefecture. Mount Aso is well-known nationwide and is an important tourist resource. The village is also home to the famous Shirakawa River, whose water source has been selected as one of Japan's 100 famous springs. The village is also blessed with hot springs, including Jigoku Onsen and Tarutama Onsen. Other tourist attractions include the Aso Monkey Theater and Aso Farmland.
