Tosashimizu City faces the sea and has developed alongside the fishing industry, with abundant catches of fatty Shimizu mackerel and Japanese sardines. It is also the birthplace of bonito tataki (seared bonito). Aside from fishing, agriculture is also thriving, with fruits such as dekopon and konatsu oranges cultivated, which are local specialties. Tourist attractions include Cape Ashizuri at the tip of the Ashizuri Peninsula, where the Cape Ashizuri Lighthouse is one of Kochi Prefecture's most famous scenic spots, attracting many visitors. Other attractions include the Yoshifuku Family Residence, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property, and Hakusan Domon, a natural wood cultural property of Kochi Prefecture. The Ashizuri Festival is held in August, and the Industrial Festival is held in December. The city's tree is the aco tree, and its flower is the camellia.
