About Shimanto Town
Shimanto Town, Takaoka County, was formed in 2006 through the merger of Towa Village, Taisho Town, and Kubokawa Town. Neighboring municipalities include Shimanto City, Nakatosa Town, and Tsuno Town. The town borders the Pacific Ocean to the east and Ehime Prefecture to the northwest. Popular tourist attractions include Mount Fujii Iwamoto Temple, one of the 88 Shikoku Pilgrimage Sites; Komuro Beach, one of Japan's 100 Best White Sand and Green Pine Beaches; and Okitsu Komuro Beach. Other attractions include the Niida Broadleaf Tree, a national natural monument; the Kaiyodo Hobby Museum Shimanto; and the Okitsu Youth Travel Village. There are three roadside stations: Aguri Kubokawa, Shimanto Taisho, and Shimanto Towa. Each station offers a direct sales outlet for agricultural products, specialty products, and a restaurant. The Okitsu Hachiman Shrine Grand Festival, designated an intangible cultural property of Kochi Prefecture, is held in October.
