About Hidaka Village
Located in the southern part of Kochi Prefecture, Hidaka Village in Takaoka District took its name from one character each from Japan and Kochi Prefecture during the 1954 merger. The village is also known as the home of medaka fish, and is committed to nature observation programs. Events are held to observe the creatures that live in the wetlands, allowing visitors to become acquainted with the rich natural environment. The village's hilly region also boasts a vast 200,000 square meter tea plantation, famous for its Kiriyama tea. There are also hands-on classes where you can stroll through the tea plantation and learn how to brew tea. Along the national highway near Okahana Station is Sansanichi, a farmer's market where you can purchase fresh vegetables, including the village's specialty, high-sugar tomatoes.
