Located in the southwestern part of Kochi Prefecture, Shimanto City is a region rich in nature, home to the Shimanto River, known as Japan's last pure river. It borders Inage City, Tosashimizu City, and Kuroshio Town. The city enjoys a warm climate throughout the year, making it a comfortable place to live. The city's specialties include sweetfish and eels caught in the Shimanto River, as well as Shimanto chestnuts and yuzu, a bounty of the mountains. Every May, the Tosa Ichijo Court nobles parade through the city in beautiful costumes from the Muromachi period, known as the Wisteria Festival. The attire, appropriate for each position, is reminiscent of a period picture scroll. Many events are held here, including the Shimanto Summer Fireworks Festival in September and the Ichijo Grand Festival in November.
