About Muroto City
Muroto City, Kochi Prefecture, is located in the eastern part of the prefecture, adjacent to Toyo Town and Nahari Town in Aki District. It is a region rich in nature, with mountains and rivers, and was formed through a merger in 1959. Local specialties include loquats, Japanese bay peaches, Tosa Buntan mandarins, and early-season chestnuts. Tourist attractions include Murotosan Saigosakiji Temple, Hojusan Shinshoji Temple, and Ryuzusan Kongochoji Temple, all of which are among the 88 temples in Shikoku associated with Kukai. The area's events include the Kira River Onda Festival, one of Japan's three most unusual festivals. This festival is a fertility festival in which women who are unable to conceive compete for a wooden doll representing a baby. The city's tree is the ubamegashira oak, and its flower is the crinum.
