About Konan City

Konan City was formed in 2006 through the merger of Yoshikawa Village, Yasu Town, Akaoka Town, Kagami Town, and Noichi Town. Neighboring municipalities include Aki City and Nankoku City. The city is blessed with abundant nature, including the mountains of Kumao, Monraku, and Akiha. Rivers include the Monobe River. Tourist attractions include the Yasu Roadside Station, Kochi Prefectural Noichi Zoo, and the Teyu Port Drawbridge. Other notable sites include Dainichi Temple, the 28th temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage; Eiji Temple, whose three Buddha statues are designated as Important Cultural Properties; and Suruda Hachiman Shrine. The city is also home to the Tenjin Cedar, a national natural monument, and Ryugado Cave, one of Japan's three largest limestone caves. The Ekin Festival is held in July, and the Dorome Festival is held in April. Local specialties include chives and Yamakita mandarins.
