Kochi City flourished as the castle town of the Tosa Domain. Approximately 40% of Kochi Prefecture's population lives in Kochi City, making it known as a highly concentrated metropolis. The city's specialty, seared bonito, is nationally renowned. The climate is on the Pacific coast, resulting in a warm climate throughout the year. Famous landmarks include Kochi Castle, Harimaya Bridge, and Fudeyama Park. Temples 30 through 34 of the 88 Shikoku temples are also located here, making pilgrimages a common sight. The city also boasts numerous museums, including the Kochi Museum of Art, the Kochi Prefectural Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum, and the Former Yamauchi Family Residence and Tenement Exhibition Hall. The Kochi Museum of Art is famous for its extensive collection of Chagall's works.
