About Tano Town
Tano Town, Aki District, Kochi Prefecture, is the smallest rural town in Shikoku, located at the mouth of the Nahari River on the west bank. The town enjoys a relatively warm climate, with almost no snowfall even in winter. National Route 55 runs east-west through the center of town, while an old national highway runs parallel to the coast. The town's main industries are agriculture, primarily greenhouse horticulture, and coastal fishing, such as large-scale seine fishing and pole-and-line fishing in Tosa Bay. The town's market for fine wood products, made from large-diameter Yanase cedar trees, one of Japan's three most beautiful forests, is nationally renowned. Tano Town's specialty products include special surimi (surimi) made with fresh squid, horse mackerel, and cod caught in Tosa Bay, as well as cutting boards and vases made from wood grown in the town's forests.
