About Niyodogawa Town
Niyodogawa Town, Agawa District, Kochi Prefecture, is located in the northwestern part of the prefecture. While the climate is relatively warm throughout the year, snow can be seen in the mountains in winter, allowing visitors to enjoy the changing scenery of the seasons. The town's main industry is the Satoyama (satoyama) industry, primarily agriculture and forestry, which takes advantage of the town's location. Tea production, in particular, boasts one of the highest production volumes in Kochi Prefecture, making the town known as a tea-growing region. Niyodogawa Town, Agawa District, hosts the Akiha Festival, one of Tosa's three major festivals, every year on February 11th. Approximately 200 people dressed in beautiful costumes parade through the town. The Akiha Festival has been designated a Kochi Prefecture Protected Intangible Folk Cultural Property, and many spectators from both within and outside the prefecture come to witness the parade.
