Yamato City, designated a special city by the national government, is located almost in the center of Kanagawa Prefecture. Its topography is characterized by its elongated shape from north to south. The Sagami Plateau slopes gently from north to south. There are eight train stations in the area, making it approximately 15 minutes from anywhere in the city to the nearest station. Transportation is also convenient, with Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Yokohama easily accessible in approximately an hour. Koza Pork is a brand and a local specialty. It has been selected as one of Kanagawa's Top 100 Specialties and a Kanagawa Brand Product. Yamatokko, Sakura Kaido, Rinkan Sable, and Shonan Potato are also famous confections. Festivals include the Dondoyaki festival in January, the Setsubun Festival in February, and the Yamato Citizens' Festival in May.
