About Samukawa Town
Samukawa Town, Koza District, Kanagawa Prefecture, is located in the center of the prefecture, adjacent to Fujisawa City and Atsugi City. It is the second most populous town in the Kanto region, after Ami Town, Ibaraki Prefecture. The Sagami River and Mekujiri River flow through this area, making it a rich natural environment. Tourist attractions include Sagami Province Ichinomiya Samukawa Shrine and Sagami Province Ichinomiya Hachiman Daijingu Shrine, and the town once flourished as a temple town for Samukawa Shrine. Many other ruins remain, including the remains of Kajiwara Kagetoki's residence and the Koshi no Yama Horizontal Tomb Group. Local events include the Hamaori Festival, held on Marine Day, where people carry a portable shrine into the sea. Famous people from this area include the ventriloquist Ikkokudo.
