About Isehara City
Isehara City is located roughly in the center of Kanagawa Prefecture. It flourished as a farming area until the early 1960s, but residential development has progressed since the latter half of the 1960s. While it also serves as a commuter town on the outskirts of Tokyo, agriculture, including rice and fruit farming, is also thriving. The city's climate is characterized by strong winds blowing from the Sagami Plain and short hours of sunshine. Snow falls, but it rarely accumulates. Historic sites include the Rimen Kofun, built between the late 6th and 7th centuries, and the Okazaki Castle ruins on the border between Isehara and Hiratsuka. Other popular tourist spots include Ayame no Sato, Oyama-ji Temple, and Shibazakura Hyuga Yakushi. The Oyama Oyama Afuri Shrine's Yamatomai and Mikomai dance festivals, designated an intangible folk cultural property of Kanagawa Prefecture in 1976, are also held here.
