Ayase City, Kanagawa Prefecture, is located in the central part of the prefecture, bordering Yamato City and Fujisawa City. It is the newest city in Kanagawa Prefecture, and its entire area is built on the river terraces of the Sagami River, 20% of which is occupied by the Atsugi Naval Base. Local specialties include broccoli and pork miso pickles, as well as Ayase Sable. Events in the area, such as the Ayase Greening Fair, the Shiroyama Cherry Blossom Festival, and the Ayase Illuminations, attract many visitors. Tourist attractions include Renkoji Temple and Gosha Shrine. Famous people from this area include Sakana-kun, a ichthyologist and TV personality, and actress Yu Kashii, wife of actor Joe Odagiri.
