About Yamakita Town
Yamakita Town, Ashigarakami District, located at the westernmost tip of Kanagawa Prefecture, is on the border between Yamanashi and Shizuoka prefectures. Its area is the third largest after Yokohama City and Sagamihara City. Lake Tanzawa is located almost in the center of Yamakita Town, and the surrounding area is a popular recreational and tourist destination. It is also Kanagawa's leading sake producing region, producing brands such as Tanzawayama and Takashi. Tourist attractions include Nakagawa Houkisugi, one of Japan's New 100 Famous Trees, and Shasui Falls, one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls. From late March to early April, the town also hosts the Yamakita Cherry Blossom Festival, Lake Tanzawa Fireworks, and Nishi Tanzawa Momiji Festival. Outdoor activities are available at campgrounds such as the Yamakita Town Kawachigawa Fureai Village and Lake Tanzawa Campside.
