About Oimachi
Oi Town, Ashigarakami District, located in the southwestern part of Kanagawa Prefecture, is made up of the Oiso Plain. One-quarter of Oi Town is cultivated land, used for rice paddies, fields, and orchards. Radishes, corn, and taro are grown in the fields. Mandarin oranges, plums, and chestnuts are cultivated in the orchards. The Oi Yosakoi Gourd Festival is held on the first weekend of August every year. It began when a gourd trellis was erected at Kamioi Station to provide shade. Held since the 1970s, the festival features dances and the selection of a gourd girl. There is also a sweets brand called "Fukufuku Gourd" that uses edible gourds, which can be purchased online.
