Nakai Town, Ashigarakami District, located in the southwest of Kanagawa Prefecture, is bordered by neighboring municipalities such as Hiratsuka City, Odawara City, and Hadano City. One-third of the town is covered in forests. It is also home to Japan's newest natural lake, Lake Shinsei, formed by a landslide during the Great Kanto Earthquake. Taking advantage of the town's warm climate, mandarin oranges are cultivated here. Dairy farming is also practiced. Regarding transportation, the Shonan Railway used to run through the town, but it was discontinued and no longer operates. Public transportation is provided by bus routes. The Tomei Expressway and a prefectural road run through the northern part of Nakai Town, Ashigarakami District. Entertainers who have come from the town include TV personality Hiroko Sato and volleyball player Kenji Onoe.
