About Osaki Town
Osaki Town, Soo District, is located in the southeastern part of Kagoshima Prefecture, on the eastern side of the Osumi Peninsula. During the Edo period, the town flourished as the site of Osaki Outer Castle, a feudal domain of the Satsuma domain. While some parts of the town are surrounded by the neighboring city of Shibushi, there is also an enclave of Shibushi. Other neighboring municipalities include Soo City, Kanoya City, and Higashikushira Town, Kimotsuki District. Agriculture is a thriving industry in the town, producing abundant produce such as mandarin oranges, mangoes, and eggplants. Tourist attractions include Osaki Fureai no Sato Park, Kuni no Matsubara, and Yokose Kofun, a 165-meter-long burial mound known as a national historic site. Famous town events include the Arasa Festival and the Kabuto Mushi Sumo Tournament.
