About So City
Soo City is a new town formed by the merger of three towns in 2005. Located in the northern part of the Osumi Peninsula in eastern Kagoshima Prefecture, it is a city rich in nature, surrounded by the foothills of Mount Kirishima. Its main industries are livestock and field crops, while its commercial districts are along Prefectural Route 503 and National Route 269. Furthermore, the former Sueyoshi Town and the former Takarabe Town are adjacent to Miyakonojo City in Miyazaki Prefecture, and are within the Miyakonojo metropolitan area. Furthermore, Sumiyoshi Shrine's Yabusame (horseback archery) is designated as an intangible folk cultural asset by Kagoshima Prefecture, and attracts many tourists. It also boasts a historic side, with many other historical cultural assets and sites. Famous local specialties include fruits such as yuzu and watermelon, as well as Chinese cabbage and shiitake mushrooms.
