About Makurazaki City
Makurazaki City, located at the southwestern tip of the Satsuma Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture, is famous as a bonito town. It is one of Japan's leading port towns, and the famous authentic shochu "Satsuma Shiranami" is from here. Makurazaki Fishing Port is famous for its bonito catches, and fishing is the city's core industry. Shochu production is also thriving, with the headquarters of Satsuma Shuzo located in Makurazaki City. Makurazaki Station is the southernmost JR station, and the city has a friendship city relationship with Wakkanai City, Hokkaido, which is also home to Wakkanai Station, the northernmost JR station. In addition to bonito and shochu, the city is also famous for its black tea and tankan fruit. Events held at Makurazaki Port include the Satsuma Kuroshio "Kibarankai" Makurazaki Port Festival.
