About Nagashima Town
Nagashima Town in Izumi County is located at the westernmost tip of Kagoshima and is one of its islands. It boasts numerous industries, and in agriculture, potato cultivation is thriving, taking advantage of the town's warm climate and sticky red soil. It's also famous as the birthplace of Unshu mandarins since ancient times, and is known for its Dekopon fruit. Fisheries are also thriving, with yellowtail farming and grass fishing. To protect the clean and abundant resources, young fish are regularly released into the water and fish feed is cultivated. Nagasaki-hana Lighthouse Park is a major attraction. It has been lit since 1897, and offers spectacular sunsets. Fishing is also available beneath the lighthouse.
