Ibusuki City is located at the mouth of Kagoshima Bay, at the southernmost tip of the Satsuma Peninsula. The Kirishima Volcanic Mountains run through the city, and the city is blessed with hot springs, including Ibusuki Onsen. The climate is extremely warm year-round, making it a pleasant place to live. Ibusuki Onsen is a popular tourist destination, particularly its natural sand baths. By lying on the beach and having sand poured over you, you can enjoy the same benefits as a sauna. This unique experience is only possible in this region, where hot springs are said to gush forth within a meter of digging. This takes advantage of the steam that sometimes erupts when digging on the coast. Lake Ikeda is also famous as Kyushu's largest caldera lake and is a major tourist attraction in Ibusuki City.
