About Hiki City
Hioki City is a relatively new city formed by the merger of four towns in 2005. Each town's unique characteristics are being utilized in urban development. Connected to Kagoshima City by rail and road networks, it has also thrived as a commuter town for the city. It also has a deep historical connection with Satsuma ware, and pottery is still produced there today. Hioki City is also home to Fukiagehama, one of Japan's three largest sand dunes and the longest in the country. Tourist attractions include Tokushige Shrine and hot springs such as Fukiage Onsen and Yunomoto Onsen, and popular local products include Satsuma ware, Ijuin manju, and strawberries. The city is also famous for Yabusame, and many tourists visit the Miyama Pottery Festival and Fukiage Autumn Festival.
