Mitoyo City borders many cities and towns in Kagawa Prefecture, including Kanonji City and Zentsuji City, as well as Miyoshi City in Tokushima Prefecture, and is bordered by sea by Fukuyama City in Hiroshima Prefecture and Kasaoka City in Okayama Prefecture. Mitoyo City is home to many mountains, including Mt. Shiude and Mt. Shippo, as well as numerous ponds and islands. The city developed during the Edo period due to the trade of tea and fish. Agriculture is a thriving industry in the city, and specialty products include a variety of products such as lettuce, tea, and grapes. Fishing and manufacturing are also important industries in the city. The city is home to tourist attractions such as Kagawa Irrigation Canal Memorial Park and Nio Marina.
