About Naoshima Town
Naoshima Town, Kagawa County, Kagawa Prefecture, borders Takamatsu City and Tonosho Town, Shozu County, across the sea. It's an island in the northern part of the prefecture. It's a place rich in nature, with mountains, rivers, and ponds. Visiting the main village allows you to experience the traditional townscape. It was once a village, but became a town in 1954. Until then, the kanji for "shima" (island) was used, but when it became a town, the kanji was changed to "shima" (island). Local specialties include yellowtail, sea bream, and seaweed. Aquaculture is thriving. Tourist attractions include the concrete Lee Ufan Museum and the Chichu Art Museum, where the artwork changes appearance depending on the time of day. Other popular attractions include Naoshima Female Bunraku, the Kibejima Saltworks Ruins, and Emperor Sutoku Shrine.
